Such excellent (and entertaining!) information. We just put up a bat house. I believe we can get raw milk out our local coop. Going to find out today. Thanks for the possible salvation of our cruciferous plants! (Especially as I have no pantyhose whatsoever!)
When my kids were little, the neighbor to our north used to sell raw milk. Everyone knew it. I was not a fan, but some neighbors were. In fact, one neighbor had a child who contracted tuberculosis, and had to have his chest opened up and carries a big old scar from it, his whole life. After seeing that and what he went through, I would never touch raw milk.
Oh yes, raw milk. We milked cows in the 80s and into the 90s when our children were growing up. We drank raw milk everyday. When I ran for Secretary of Ag, one of the first farm groups to all me in for an interview was the Dairy Association. They told me under no circumstances should I allow raw milk. Hmm..... I avoided the subject with them, neither agreeing nor disagreeing. We have three healthy fortysomethings who made it through their raw milk youth.
I remember getting a pasteurizer for the milk we had been drinking, direct from our cows. The little kettle heated one gallon bucket at a time to kill the bacterias and stop the spread of TB! We had several scary tests and my sister still carries a “TB shadow”.
Louis Pasteur and my Dad would be revolving in their graves to know about this bill!
It's always good to get more than one perspective on things. Thank you. Does anyone know why this change got passed? I heard no one talk about it until it was a done deal!
Great article, Mary. I can relate to attempts (whether in gardens or in houses) requiring four hands when we’re limited to two, and our four footed companions can’t help out. I have asked my cat, on occasion, if he’ll help, but he has yet to agree.

I love the raw milk discussion but the cabbage coveage is really the best part.
Thanks, Suzanna.
